Advanced Tanker Courses
Overview
Specialised courses designed for candidates who wish to work on board vessels carrying liquid cargoes in bulk as either officer of the watch or higher ranks.
There are three specialised courses to choose from:
- Specialised Chemical Tanker
- Specialised Gas Tanker
- Specialised Oil Tanker
Tanker Familiarisation Certificate or at least 3 months seagoing experience in the type of vessel carrying the cargo the certificate will be isued for. Candidates will also need testimonials from their employer detailing the periods on board their vessels and the nature of the cargoes carried.
Each course costs £500.
More Information
Depending on the type of certificate candidates will study the caharacteristics of the particular typpes of cargo under consideration, safety procedures when loading, discharging and on passage. Tankcleaning procedures in cluding Inert Gas systems, Crude oil washing and pre cooling operations in the case of Gas tankers.
Employment as Watchkeeping Officer on board a vessel carrying Oil, Gas or Chemical cargoes.
Each course runs for 5 days.

This four week orals only preparation course for candidates wanting to complete a CLASS 1 Deck Officer Certificate of Competency
5 week course covering topics within the MCA class 2 Oral examinations not included within the HND Nautical Science and revision of past papers
5 week course covering topics within the MCA class 2 written examinations not included within the HND Nautical Science and revision of past papers.
18 week course including preparation for Class2 written and oral examinations plus NARAST Management course, Medical Care on Board Ship (if required) and MCA signals.
Practical training course required by all deck ratings wishing to progress to the rank of able bodied seaman. It is also a mandatory requirement for the issue of an Officer of the watch or EOOW Ceritifcate of Competency
This is a stand alone course which meets the requirments of the MCA and the IMO model course for the issue of an STCW 95 certificate as an ECDIS operator
Mandatory course for all candidates wishing to obtain an OOW Certificate of Competency.
Practical training course required by all deck ratings wishing to progress to the rank of able bodied seaman. It is also a mandatory requirement for the issue of an Officer of the wath Ceritifcate of Competency
Mandatory course for all those wishing to obtain a class 2 certificate of competency.
Mandatory 180 hour course for all those wishing to obtain an OOW certificate of competency.
