Overview

This class is for anyone wanting to learn to cook from scratch.  You'll create quick and tasty dishes suitable for mid-week dinners. Guidance will be given on using a knife, bulk cooking and storage of food, along with all the technical information required to make healthy and tasty food all by yourself.

Minimum entry requirements

  • No formal entry requirements - this is a fun leisure class for amateur cooks and people looking to learn different cookery styles and skills.

What you study

Dishes will include pasta, curry, chilli con carne, soups, pizza, stir fry and basic egg dishes.

There are a variety of leisure classes within the Culinary Arts and Bakery department which you may wish to consider after completing the course.

Teaching

How the course is taught

  • The first night will be a practical demonstration by the lecturer and recipes will be issued.
  • You will need to buy ingredients and bring them in every week.
  • There will be lecturer led demonstrations every week and also the chance to ask any questions and taste the food.
  • Any specific requirements should be discussed with your lecturer.

Materials

All kitchen equipment is provided.  You will need to bring containers to take your food home in each week.

Dress code

  • Appropriate clothing and footwear for the kitchen.
  • Apron to protect your clothing.
  • Tea towel for drying dishes.
