Please Note:  This is a school college partnership course.  We can only accept online applications from Secondary School pupils in their Senior Phase.

Unlock the secrets to business success with our Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills.

During this course, you’ll learn how to become an inspiring leader as someone who sets the tone, culture and direction of an organisation.

We’ll help you develop your leadership style by learning how a business runs and how you can influence decisions as one of the key assets to any organisation.

As the vital support that allows any company to function effectively, this course will help develop your administration IT skills.

But that's not all – you'll also build a unique toolkit of skills, knowledge, and behaviours you can take to any business, big or small.

Learn about business essentials like Structures, Strategy, HR, and Finance.

Get hands-on experience through a local work placement, putting your skills into action in the real world.

Attendance Pattern

  • Year 1: Tuesday and Thursday (1.30pm – 4pm).
  • Year 2: Thursday (9.30am – 4pm).

The work placement element of this course will take place during your second year.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

This course would suit students interested in Business, Administration and IT.

You must have achieved two National 5’s including English. You should be able to work towards a Higher qualification.

National Progression Award (NPA) units:

  • Contemporary Business Issues.
  • Understanding Business.
  • Management of People and Finance.
  • Web Applications: Spreadsheets.
  • Web Applications: Word.

SVQ Units (Assessed in the Workplace)

  • Plan How to Manage and Improve Own Performance in a Business Environment.
  • Communicate in a Business Environment.
  • Support Other People to Work in a Business Environment.
  • Design and Produce Documents in a Business Environment.
  • Work Based Challenge Unit.

After the course

Careers

Should you wish to progress directly to employment you can apply for a range of entry-level jobs available in business areas including – business development, supply chain management, marketing, HR and Administration. Upon completion of a Foundation Apprenticeship, you may gain advanced entry onto an associated Modern Apprenticeship.

Continuing Study

Following completion of the Foundation Apprenticeship, you could progress directly onto HNC & HND programmes at City of Glasgow College.  Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships are also available for this sector, and degree programmes are available at universities across Scotland.

This will include project work, lecturer tutorials and group tasks. You will develop and apply your learning in practice with an employer during your work placement.
