Overview
Looking to become a qualified Product Designer? This is a challenging course, where you'll take part in an exciting and comprehensive programme of product design. You’ll learn about new materials, CAD and how to use manufacturing processes, as well as developing 3D prototypes.
You'll work through all the stages of the design process through a number of projects, producing presentation boards for clients to review.
The course gives you the skills required for employment in this high demand industry sector (please see further information in the 'after the course' section) and will be delivered by our professional teaching staff with significant product design experience.

The course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Two Highers at Grade C or above including English and one from Design and Manufacture, Product Design, Graphic Communication or Art and Design; OR
- NC Product Design or related discipline (eg Furniture Design), OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
- You'll be asked to provide examples of your art and design work.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

Continuing Study
After successful completion of the HNC, you will be encouraged to continue your education by applying for the HND (2nd year) of the Higher National Diploma 3D Design: Product Design course at City of Glasgow College.
Teaching
How the course is taught
The course will be delivered using a blended learning model.
You will learn through a mixture of face-to-face and online teaching, using the college virtual learning environment (VLE).
Practical elements of the course will continue to be delivered on campus in specialist rooms and workshops. You should expect to be in the college for part of the week.
Remote (online) learning will be used for subjects that are more suited to this type of teaching. You will need access to a computer or device for this type of learning and access to the internet*. Resources and learning materials will all be available through the VLE although this will still be tutor-led.
*Students without access to a computer or wifi at home will be given alternative options to allow online studying.
