This day release course prepares students to become technicians, or technical engineers in the Electrical Engineering Industry; which deals with the production, transmission, distribution and application of electricity and the manufacture, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment.


Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Applicants should have a Maths Higher at Grade ‘C’ or above plus preferably an applied Science Higher at grade ‘C’ or above; OR
  • Good National 5 or Intermediate 2 level qualifications which include Maths and preferably Physics will also be considered; OR
  • Level 5 or level 6 Electrical National Certificate Qualifications with enhanced Maths will also be considered for interview.

Units will be continually assessed throughout the year.


After the course


Many will choose to pursue work as an electrical craftsperson in the electrical or oil and gas industries or wish to gain employment at technician level within the Education / Health Board Sector.

Continuing Study

Every one of our HND level courses has articulation opportunities where you can progress from your chosen course to a related university degree. This is an excellent option for those who may want to come to College at an introductory level, and then work their way towards degree level study.

Upon satisfactory attendance on the course and successful completion of the HNC Electrical Group Award , you may progress to:

HND Electrical (SCQF Level 8) at the College.
