    The 2nd year of HND Computer Games Development will further develop skills in 3D games design and development. Using Unity and Unreal games engines you will create 3D games content including characters and environments and incorporate them in level and games creation, bringing them to life across a range of platforms such as mobile and Virtual Reality.

    Minimum entry requirements

    • HNC Computer Games Development (15 credits).

    • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
    • You should bring a previous programming and/or design portfolio relevant to games.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    This course prepares you for employment in a junior developer role within the Computer Games Industry or a junior software developer role within the IT Industry. 

    The skills learned on this course also open up excellent opportunities in virtual and augmented reality roles in other employment areas such as the construction industry.

    Continuing Study

    The HND Computer Games Development qualification has progression routes to a number of universities, including University of the West of Scotland, Abertay University and Glasgow Caledonian University.

    Teaching

    How the course is taught

    The course consists of a series of combined projects which you will undertake through from initial brief to final development. The projects are designed to develop your skills in research, investigation, project development and problem-solving, leading to the development and testing of your completed game designs.

    The course lecturers will provide guidance and support in practical and design tasks through class discussion, demonstrations and one-to-one tutorials.
