What is an HND (Higher National Diploma)?
HND or Higher National Diploma Courses are typically either two year full-time courses or 3 year part-time courses. Obtaining a HND can permit entry directly into the fourth year of a degree programme.
Due to the vocational nature of HND courses they prepare you for work in specific industries and the completion of certain HND’s permits entry to related professional bodies such as ACCA, CIMA and CIM.
All HND courses are composed of 16 Higher National Unit Credits. One Credit Unit is equivalent to 40 hours of learning.
The typical entry requirement for an HND course is one of the following:
- Two passes at Higher or above
- GSVQ Level III
- A programme of National Units relevant to the HND course you wish to study.
- An equivalent qualification.
Please see our course directory for the specific entry requirements for the course you are interested in.
At the City of Glasgow College we offer HNC courses across a number of subjects including Interior Design, Social Sciences and Electrical Engineering. For our full list of HND courses please see our course directory.
