The Engineering Academy

City of Glasgow College has worked in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde, industry and other colleges to create The Engineering Academy.

Students study an enhanced HNC in Mechanical Engineering at the college and those students who achieve the required performance (successful completion of all the units and an A in the Graded Unit) will be guaranteed transfer to the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree within one of the following Faculty of Engineering departments:

Civil & Environmental Engineering

Design, Manufacture & Engineering Management

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering

Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering

  • All Academy programmes are boosted by hands-on practical experience ensuring graduates have the enhanced professional and vocational skills industry is seeking. 
  • Students benefit from industry-funded scholarships and paid summer placements enhancing future employment prospects.
  • The ultimate destination  for Academy students is a high-quality job in engineering.
  • Companies engaging with the Engineering Academy concept include: Aggreko, Babcock, BP, Hulley and Kirkwood, NEL, Rolls Royce, SSE, Technip and Weir Group.
  • Students are enrolled with Associate Student Status at the University of Strathclyde and are inducted into university life during their first year, to ensure a smooth journey into the full-time university timetable whilst completing the first year in College.
  • Courses commence in September at our new state of the art Riverside Campus.

Applications for The Engineering Academy should be made via UCAS. The UCAS code for The Engineering Academy is oBRT. You don’t need to complete a separate application for the HNC programme at the College.
