City Attributes

City Attributes

Beyond the Qualification

City Attributes is our framework of essential personal and professional skills that support every student in becoming a well-rounded, confident, and capable individual. Through our approach, students gain more than technical knowledge, they develop soft skills, interpersonal abilities, career management skills, and other qualities that reflect the City of Glasgow College experience. The City Attributes framework promotes independence as its core value. Each Attribute is designed to help you grow, reflect, and succeed as a modern learner and future professional.

Preparing for the Future

As demand grows across industries for well-rounded graduates who demonstrate both hard skills and meta-skills, City Attributes is more relevant than ever. The programme continues to evolve, with content refined to meet the needs of learners at all academic levels: from SQCF Level 3 to Level 8. Whether you're just starting your journey or advancing through higher education, you'll engage with a tailored City Attributes curriculum that builds the reflective, adaptable, and confident mindset needed for future careers. With ongoing feedback from students and staff, City Attributes will remain a dynamic and future-facing part of the City of Glasgow College experience.

The four overarching City Student Attributes will support students to be:

1. Curiosity

Critical Thinking / Creativity / Eagerness / Self-Awareness.

Curious is an overarching attribute at the heart of every students journey. It is important for your intellectual growth and well-being. Throughout your course you will be encouraged to develop independent attributes such as Critical Thinking, being Creative and self-aware as you progress through your learning journey.

2. Optimism and Openness

Receptiveness / Confidence / Adaptability / Resilience.

Students should be prepared to be open to new experiences and willing to take on challenges with a positive attitude and enhance their ability to learn, grow, and adapt in a rapidly changing world.

3. Globally Ready

Accountability / Environmental Awareness / Digital Preparedness / Active Citizenship.

Our students will be prepared to understand the effects of globalisation, promote inclusiveness, interact respectfully with others and promote human rights and wellbeing.

4. Contribution

Self-Leadership / Self-Motivation / Effective Communication / Connection & Collaboration

You will acquire the necessary skills to contribute meaningfully to your learning experience. You will learn how to engage with diverse cultures, collaborate effectively with others, and actively participate in class discussions and activities.
