Hazel Henderson

I am a Glasgow-based multidisciplinary designer specialising in jewellery, sculpture and printmaking. My work is inspired by both natural and architectural forms and textures and informed by lived experience. My design process is guided by strong narratives which serve to give projects meaning and evoke emotion.  Currently pursuing a BA (Hons) in Design Practice at City of Glasgow College, my work has benefited through exposure to multiple artistic disciplines. This has expanded both my creative development and the quality of my outcomes, enriching my practice with broader perspectives and more refined methods. 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION 

This project coincided with my mother’s Dementia diagnosis. My question at the time was how to focus on memories she still held rather than those she had lost – concentrating on the positive rather than the negative in the situation. Focusing on the Care Home environment, the project developed as a set of interventions designed to encourage retrieval of memories and prompt conversations between residents and caregivers. The aim was to facilitate more meaningful engagement and connection.
