John Lochrie
An illustrator by discipline but multidisciplined in practice, I work across a wide range of mediums from printmaking to animation, to analogue and digital techniques. My practice is rooted in creative play, experimentation, and a sense of playfulness, allowing me to explore a broad spectrum of themes and subject matter, often with a nostalgic influence inspired by vintage and retro design elements and colourways. Open to trying anything, I see experimentation as an essential part of my process. Guided by curiosity, whimsy, and exploration, this approach shapes everything I create, whether it is personal or professional.Â
End of Year Show Project DescriptionÂ
Societal pressure shapes how we act, think, and even dress. Today, much of our self-expression and self-discovery happens in private or in online spaces, where outcomes feel controlled. As a result, fewer public, open environments encourage genuine exploration of identity. The idea of “fitting in” divides us; some reject it, while others long for belonging. This piece invites participants to engage with different facets of themselves. By removing pressure and expectation, the piece encourages discovery, reflection, and new perspectives on both self and others. Step into a pressure-free environment where you can explore who you are and perhaps uncover something new about yourself and those around you.Â
