Collaborative Project - Final Illustration (2024)

Katie Pickering

I am a multidisciplinary designer with a strong focus on illustration. Working across a range of mediums is central to my practice, and during my Design Practice degree, I discovered a particular passion for mural painting. I also enjoy working digitally, often blending analogue textures and hand‑drawn elements to build rich, layered visuals. Intricacy and detail are key to my style, with much of my inspiration drawn from fantasy and the natural world. Throughout my degree, I explored a wide variety of techniques and outcomes, each one pushing my practice in new directions and helping me refine my creative voice. As I move into life after graduation, I’m excited to refocus on illustration - bringing together everything I’ve learned to develop work that is expressive, immersive, and grounded in the multidisciplinary approach that shapes my creativity.

End of Year Show

My degree show project looks at nature and its often underappreciated presence within communities. Through a large‑scale mural design, the project brings this hidden nature into view, celebrating the plants, wildlife, and ecosystems that quietly coexist alongside us. An accompanying zine expands on these themes, offering additional context and information to encourage deeper engagement. Glasgow is used as the inspiration behind this work, but my idea behind the project is that it could be applied to any location, encouraging more people to care for and appreciate all that nature does for us.
