Finlay Wright
I am Finlay Wright, a photographer who focuses on showing creativity and technical ability through my work. I am mainly interested in fashion and portrait photography, but I also enjoy capturing a variety of subjects where I can apply my own personal style. Recently, I have been focusing more on fashion photography with elements of surrealism, which allows me to experiment more with visual storytelling and creative ideas.
In earlier projects, I created a series of portraits of farmers in rural Ayrshire, where I explored both the individuals and their environments. This work helped develop my understanding of character and setting within photography. Across all my projects, I aim to balance creativity with careful composition, producing images that reflect both the subject and my artistic viewpoint in a clear and thoughtful way.
Project Statement
Natural Business
This project explores the idea of bringing together things that would not usually belong in the same space. It is based on my personal experience of often feeling out of place, which may be linked to growing up with ADHD and dyslexia. Through fashion and portrait photography, I aim to show this feeling visually by creating images that suggest both connection and disconnection at the same time.
The photographs combine two very different environments in one composition. Large natural landscapes, including fields, trees, and other parts of the Scottish countryside, are placed alongside office settings with desks, computers, and formally dressed models. This contrast creates a slightly ironic and surreal effect, highlighting the difference between freedom in nature and the controlled environment of traditional office work.
The project also looks at modern social values, especially among younger people, where career success and personal appearance are often prioritised over wellbeing and connection to the natural beauty of our world. The models are shown focusing on everyday work tasks, paying attention to small details while ignoring their natural surroundings, which remain visible but unnoticed.
