In my practice, I enjoy using a mix of different techniques and formats to create images.Ā  I’m always drawn to creating images that explore identity in some sense.Ā  I’m interested in all the parts that make us and the parts we don’t fully understand.Ā  Mainly, I work with digital photography; however, I’ve recently been really enjoying the process of film and cyanotypes too.Ā  In this course, I’ve mainly been exploring identity through an artistic documentary style.Ā  However, in my own time, I really enjoy making one-off pieces that express feelings of identity andĀ experimenting with mixing media.Ā

The project I’m showing for the end of year exhibition is a love letter to my home and a question with no answer about how far we are from where we started.Ā  I’d been really inspired making work to show the freedom I gained when I moved to Glasgow.Ā  Freedom in sexuality and expression.Ā  However, this project is the other side of the coin to that.Ā  It’s a project that explores my home.Ā  I’m from the Shetland Islands, which is a very different pace of life from the city.Ā  When I was younger, I always wanted to get away because of this.Ā  This project is about the acceptance of the part of me that will always belong to the islands.Ā  It’s about connecting with nature, family and the freedom of authenticity that can’t exist in the same way for me in the city.Ā
