Haelly Joshi, India

We spoke to Haelly to find out about studying at the college as an international student on the Advanced Diploma in Visual Communication and Digital Design (Graphics) Year 2.

I chose City of Glasgow College because of its strong reputation for creative courses and its supportive environment for international students. My course allows me to develop both creative and technical skills while exploring areas such as branding, digital media and visual storytelling. Studying here has also exposed me to diverse cultures, which has broadened my perspective and inspired my work.

The college offers excellent facilities, practical teaching and a supportive learning environment. Its strong reputation and location in a creative city made it the ideal choice for my studies.

The lecturers are highly supportive, engaged and approachable. Their detailed feedback helps me refine my ideas and develop my creativity further. I also appreciate the encouragement to explore Scotland beyond the classroom, which has made my overall experience more memorable and enriching.

I wanted international exposure and the opportunity to develop independence while studying in a global environment. The course focuses on practical, industry-relevant skills, which will help me progress to a design degree and prepare for my future career. Living in Scotland has also allowed me to experience a new culture and gain valuable life lessons.

I chose Visual Communication and Digital Design because I believe design has the power to shape how people experience and understand the world. I enjoy the depth of the subject and the process of turning ideas into meaningful visual solutions. It challenges me to think creatively and critically while allowing me to experiment and create work that can have a real impact.

I plan to continue my studies with a BA (Hons) degree in Visual Communication or Digital Design. After that, I hope to begin my career as a designer and create work that communicates ideas effectively and makes a positive impact.

Glasgow is a vibrant and creative city with a strong cultural scene. From art exhibitions to street art and independent galleries, there is always something inspiring to discover. I also appreciate the architecture and the welcoming nature of the people, which truly reflects the spirit of the city.

Yes, I would highly recommend it. The college is welcoming and inclusive, with supportive lecturers and courses that focus on real world skills. Studying in Glasgow also adds to the experience, with its friendly atmosphere and rich culture.

Stay open minded and make the most of every opportunity. Step out of your comfort zone, meet new people and ask for help when needed. Take time to explore Glasgow and experience Scottish culture, as it will make your journey much more rewarding.
