Art Classes and Courses

Our art classes and courses include both traditional and innovative art practices giving you a broad visual education in contemporary art practice.

You'll develop your skills in a range of specialist disciplines and increase your awareness and knowledge of conceptual thinking.  You'll also have the opportunity to develop and strengthen a portfolio of artwork.

We have a strong track record of students progressing to a range of universities including the University of Abertay, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, The University of the West of Scotland, The Glasgow School of Art, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and many more. 

Fine Art

HND Fine Arts (Year 2 Direct Entry) SCQF Level 8 1 Year (Full-time) City Campus
  • Successful completion of HNC Art & Design (Fine Art) with 15 credits; OR
  • Equivalent qualification from another institution, accompanied by portfolio review.
HNC Fine Art SCQF Level 7 1 Year (Full-time) City Campus
  • Higher Art and Higher English at Grade C or above, plus two National 4s; OR
  • NQ Art and Design; OR equivalent.
  • Portfolio: A digital portfolio (PDF/presentation) showing 10–15 slides of observational/experimental drawing, mixed media, or painting.
NQ Fine Art Portfolio SCQF Level 6 1 Year (Full-time) City Campus
  • National 5 Art and Design and National 5 English at Grade C or above; OR equivalent.
  • Portfolio: A digital PDF portfolio of 10–12 pages showcasing drawing, painting, mixed media, and sketchbook development.

Applied Arts

  • Two Highers at Grade C or above (including Art and Design or English); OR
  • NC/NQ in Art and Design or related subject; OR equivalent.
  • Selection: Submission of an art/design portfolio and an interview.
NQ Applied Arts SCQF Level 6 1 Year (Full-time) City Campus
  • National 5 Art & Design and National 5 English at Grade C or above; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications or relevant creative experience.
  • Selection: Portfolio submission demonstrating basic drawing, design, and 3D crafting potential.

Digital Art, Design and Animation

  • Portfolio: Showcase of observational drawing, storyboarding, and computer/practical design.
HND New Media Art SCQF Level 8 2 Years (Full-time) City Campus
  • Year 1: Two Highers at Grade C or above (e.g., Art, English, or Computing); OR relevant SCQF Level 6 NQ Portfolio.
  • Year 2 Direct Entry: HNC New Media Art or equivalent.
  • Selection: Review of visual design portfolio and personal statement during interview.
HND Digital Design: Graphics SCQF Level 8 2 Years (Full-time) City Campus
  • Year 1: Two Highers at Grade C or above (such as Art & Design or Graphic Communication); OR NC Art & Design.
  • Year 2 Direct Entry: HNC Digital Design / Visual Communication (Graphics).
  • Portfolio: Visual work showing typography, graphics layouts, and design workflow.
NQ Digital Arts and Animation SCQF Level 6 1 Year (Full-time) City Campus
  • National 5 Art and Design and National 5 English at Grade C or above; OR equivalent.
  • Portfolio: A digital portfolio showing 5–10 images of standard artwork, basic layouts, digital tests, or character concepts.
