Overview

Over the 5 days, you will learn to cook various dishes, get to meet like-minded people and have the chance to make new friends.  The Beginners Cookery summer school will provide you with hands-on experience of working in a kitchen environment including:- kitchen basics, creating a nutritious breakfast and sweet treats, vegetarian cookery, outdoor cooking for groups and baking.

You will use the industry standard facilities in our teaching studios, kitchens and workshops.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • There are no minimum entry requirements for the College’s Summer Schools.  You must have a basic level of competence in English as the course will be delivered in English.
  • If you come from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) you are required to follow the guidance provided for visas here.

Groups of young people from age 12 to 16 require individual parent/guardian consent and uniformed organisation representation (eg group leader).

What you study

This summer school is designed to cover the criteria laid out in uniformed organisations badge work and also the Duke of Edinburgh Award.  Using cooking skills you will be eligible to gain awards within the guidelines set out by uniformed organisations (eg Scouts and Girlguides).

The DofE Award looks for young people to cover various areas.  Cookery can fit into the ‘Life Skills’ or ‘Learning’ programme ideas within the Award levels.
