Overview

This programme will develop your knowledge and skills in drawing and painting.  This is an exciting way to increase your understanding of art or take your first steps into the world of art.

Escorted visits to exhibitions will be facilitated by your tutor who will also provide you with insights into the art work on display and provide opportunities for discussion.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • There are no minimum entry requirements for this Summer School.  You need to have a basic level of competence in English as the course will be delivered in English.
  • If you come from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) you need to follow the guidance provided for visas.

What you study

You will have the opportunity to take part in drawing and painting classes.  This will allow you to explore your creativity and gain new techniques to express your own ideas.

The summer school is also designed to provide a platform to experience Scotland’s biggest and most vibrant city, Glasgow.

An afternoon visit to local art galleries is included as is a day visit to Edinburgh to visit the National Portrait Gallery and to take advantage of the city’s many excellent gallery locations.

CONTINUING STUDY

You can find out about other part-time and full-time courses provided by the College that may be of interest such as Art and Design/Graphic Art Portfolio at NC level and HND Illustration.

Teaching

How the course is taught

You will have use of the industry standard facilities in our teaching studios and workshops.  You will create a portfolio of work guided by your tutor in a fun and productive environment. The tutor will be an experienced fine art practitioner.

The studio sessions will be supported by cultural visits to local galleries that will give you new insights into the work of historic and contemporary artists.

We also plan to visit and meet a contemporary artist working in his/her studio to talk about their work.
