Overview

This foundation course allows you to build a creative portfolio of art, graphic design, illustration and animation work. The course leads you to further study on a variety of HND level courses. You'll learn to research effectively and work creatively in a studio environment, from sketchbook and design process to finished work; all of which is continuously assessed.

This stimulating and creative course will be delivered to you by our highly professional teaching staff with significant Art and Design experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students. 

During the course; emphasis is placed on research, development of ideas and experimentation of media to enable you to gain a thorough understanding of the design process.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Two Intermediate 2 / National 5 Qualifications (or equivalent) in English and Art & Design; OR
  • Relevant Experience.
  • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you'll get the opportunity to find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.
  • At the interview you'll be asked to provide examples of your art and design work.

 

What you study

Emphasis is placed on research, development of ideas and experimentation of media. You'll gain a thorough understanding of the design process.

You'll mainly be working on graphic projects exploring:

  • Drawing.
  • Media & Illustration.
  • Sketchbook Development.
  • Typography.
  • Page Layout.
  • Advertising.
  • Corporate Identity.
  • Digital Imaging.

In Block 3 you'll have the chance to explore animation and web design, which will allow you to develop your portfolio for application to a wider range of HND courses.
