  • Overview

    This course will build on your existing skills in Barbering and develop creative techniques suited to the current industry. The technical units in this course not only allow you to enhance your existing skills but you will also develop and advance your techniques.

    Throughout this course, you will take part in a variety of activities, including barbering competitions, workshops, pop-up shops and demonstrations from industry experts. Additionally, there are opportunities to take part in visits to European countries.

    Our lecturers bring extensive experience and expertise in barbering education, using effective teaching methods. They constantly enhance their skills through professional development and possess industry qualifications. As lecturers and industry experts, we value and prioritise supporting your personal growth and success as a student.

    Your course will be interactive using a variety of methods to ensure your learning and progression needs are met. Units are lecturer-led however, we fully encourage you to take ownership of your own learning.

    Work experience is an essential part of the course and you will be required to secure a work placement in a barbering salon one day per week for the full duration of your course.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at level 6.

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • You must be employed as a gent’s barber with a minimum of 3 years experience in Barbering; OR
    • NC/NQ Barbering (SCQF Level 5); OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
    • Due to European Directive you require to be 16 years of age by 30 September 2024 to undertake this course.

    • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
    • You may have to undertake a skills test to demonstrate you are at the appropriate level for this course.

     

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
