Overview

A course designed for students with additional support needs who are interested in developing skills for independence and employability. This is a two-year program which is particularly suited to applicants who plan to progress onto other college courses, training and employment. 

The Development program is a personal and social development course which builds on core skills such as literacy, numeracy and ICT while exploring vocational contexts such as employability, practical cookery and project work. 

Those attending this course will study in a range of learning spaces such as a purpose built kitchen, rooftop garden, computer lab, art room and library.  

This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Levels 2 to 3.  

If you require to bring your own support worker you must inform us of this when you apply, we will discuss this further at your interview. Any support required must be agreed and in place before you attend your course.  

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

• This course is suitable for students working at National 2 and National 3.
• National 2 English, National 2 Numeracy.
• Working towards independent travel.
• Ability to cope in a class of 10 – 12.
• Additional Support needs.

Additional selection requirements

• Applicants, ideally, should be able to demonstrate evidence of wider achievement such as work experience, volunteering, involvement in clubs and organisations and achievement of awards.
• Interviews will be arrnaged for all applicants, if required, parents/carers will be invited to join the discussion to provide supplementary information and to hear about the details of the course/timetables etc.
• This will an informal but structured interview with standard questions to encourage applicants to share their skills, experience and achievments.

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

After the course

Careers

Following successful completion of first year on this course, most students will progress to second year.  Following this second year, there will be opportunities to apply to other supported education programmes such as City Works, Project Search and other programmes.   Previous students have also progressed to other entry level programmes.
