This full time course offers you an introduction to a variety of art and design media giving you the opportunity to build up a varied portfolio of work. The course will help you develop key practical creative skills and you will be encouraged to develop your individual creativity, taking responsibility for your own artwork production.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Two National 5 qualifications in English and Art & Design OR
  • English and Art & Design at Intermediate 2 or Credit level Standard Grade OR
  • Related experience.

Additional selection requirements

You may be required to attend for interview with some examples of your art and design work.

You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview, where you'll get the opportunity to find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in the subject.

How the course is taught

Hands-on practical projects using a wide variety of art and design materials. These will be supported by workshops on drawing, colour, media, digital imaging, research and investigation techniques, and development of ideas in the sketchbook. There will be ample opportunity for students to work on self-directed creative projects.

Continuous assessment of practical projects.

Additional Information


A range of basic art and design materials can purchased within the college at reduced prices including; soft pencils, charcoal, eraser, craft knife, metal ruler, scissors, glue stick, masking tape, inks, pastels and brushes.
