EIS-FELA, the trade union for lecturing staff, announced they will undertake a national programme of strike action at colleges throughout Scotland across various dates in May and possibly into June.  EIS-FELA recently cancelled some of the scheduled days of strike action at the college over the coming weeks, so there are now fewer scheduled strike days.

The next day of strike action will take place on Tuesday 17 May.

Planned strike action for Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 May has been cancelled and classes will run as normal on these dates.

Strike action is also currently scheduled to take place on Wednesday 25 May, with possible further dates in May and June to be announced.

We fully understand and share your frustration about these national strikes, and we are taking action to reschedule missed classes and/or assessments and to mitigate the impact on you from this strike action.

FAQS

Should I come to college on a strike day? Will classes run?

Some classes will run and you will be told by your lecturer about that. If your class is running, please make every effort to attend.  If you are unable to, you will be given a positive attendance for any days of strike action.  We are also continuing to keep both campus facilities open during the planned strike days to allow students to use libraries, online resources and equipment where needed. There are some areas where, due to health and safety considerations, only limited access is possible.

Will I be marked absent if I do not attend class on a strike day?

You will be given a positive attendance for any days of strike action.

Will my funding be affected?

Funding payments will not be affected.

Are the College libraries open?

Both campuses are open during the planned strike days and you can book to use the libraries and study spaces. For further advice and support, email library@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk
