YOUR FUTURE COULD START AT SEA

What if your next step took you around the world instead of into a classroom or office?

A maritime career can take you onto ships across the globe, where you’ll earn while you train, learn real skills and build a future that stands out.

Join us at the Maritime Careers Open Day and discover careers that are anything but ordinary.

Maritime Careers Open Day

Wednesday 17 June - 2:30pm – 7:00pm

Experience the industry first hand at our Maritime Open Day, where you can:

  • Take control in Europe’s most advanced ship simulators.
  • Explore our award-winning Riverside Campus.
  • Visit our Marine Skills Centre.

  • Discover careers in navigation, engineering and electro-technical systems.

Why train for a career in maritime?

No two days are the same.

You could be sailing into a new country one day and working with advanced ship systems the next. It’s fast-paced, hands-on and very different from a typical 9–5 path.

You’ll travel, earn, and build a career with real progression without needing to follow the traditional route.

Find out what it is like to study our maritime cadetships from our students.

Why choose City of Glasgow College?

  • Each cadet receives a starter pack including a laptop and course specific equipment.
  • UK-leading maritime training facilities.
  • Strong industry partnerships.
  • Hundreds of cadets trained every year.
  • Support throughout your training journey.

Career options

Train as a Deck Officer, Marine Engineer or Electro-Technical Officer.

Every route starts as a cadet, with opportunities to progress into senior roles like Captain or Chief Engineer.

Get paid while you train

Many maritime cadets are sponsored during training, meaning you could receive a bursary while training, with accommodation and travel often covered while at sea. Training combines college learning with real experience at sea, giving you practical skills from day one.

What could you earn?

Maritime careers offer excellent earning potential:

  • ÂŁ20,000–£42,000 when newly qualified.
  • Up to ÂŁ55,000 with experience.
  • ÂŁ75,000+ in senior positions.

Depending on your role, some earnings may also be tax-free.

If you want a career that’s practical, exciting and completely different from the usual path, this is your chance to explore it.
