Canvas

Canvas is our Virtual Learning Environment, which you'll have access to throughout your studies at the College. Designed to support blended learning, Canvas provides one convenient place to access everything you need for your course. You can use it to access course materials and lecture notes, submit assignments, view grades, and receive feedback from your lecturers. Canvas also helps you stay organised and connected with your learning, both in and out of the classroom. 

How do I access Canvas?  

You can access Canvas in many ways, including:- 

  • On CityLife, our student Intranet.
  • Directly at https://cogc.instructure.com/ using your college email address and password. 
  • Download the Canvas Student App for your phone and other mobile devices.

You need to set up your college account before you can access Canvas or CityLife. Our Student IT Log In Guide has step-by-step instructions to help you log in to your college account for the first time.

Our Student Digital Learning Guides include step-by-step instructions on topics such as logging in, submitting assignments, participating in discussions, viewing feedback, and using the Canvas mobile app. 

New Students

We encourage you to explore the Introduction to Canvas course, which you will find on your Canvas Dashboard. This course provides everything you need to know to get started and will show you how to: 

  • Track assignments, grades, and feedback from your lecturers. 
  • Access and organise the learning materials provided for your classes. 
  • Communicate and collaborate with other members of your class. 
  • Make the most of Canvas and its key features. 

As part of your induction, new students will receive an overview of Canvas. Your lecturers will help you access the platform, make sure you can see your course and explain how Canvas will be used within your classes. 

Our Student Digital Learning Guides have step-by-step instructions and support for common Canvas tasks. These resources are designed to help you use Canvas confidently throughout your time at the College.

Canvas For Returning Students

To refresh your knowledge of Canvas, we encourage you to revisit the Introduction to Canvas course on your Canvas Dashboard. This course provides a helpful overview of Canvas and reminds you how to: 

  • Keep track of assignments, grades, and feedback from your lecturers. 
  • Access and organise learning materials for your courses. 
  • Communicate and collaborate with other members of your class. 
  • Make the most of the key features available in Canvas. 

You can access your current courses, as well as materials from previous courses you have been enrolled on. To view past courses, select Courses > All Courses from the Canvas navigation menu, where you will see both your current and previous enrolments.
