Overview

This qualification is based on the CIPD’s Profession Map, which provides the platform by setting out the knowledge, behaviours and inherent values required to help move the profession forward, individually, and collectively, to embrace change in the modern world of work. 

The Level (SCQF Level 6) certificate is a Foundation-level, professional qualification and is suited to individuals who:- 

  • Are aspiring to, or embarking on, a career in people practice. 

  • Are working in a people practice support role and wish to develop their knowledge and deliver immediate and short-term value for their organisation. 

  • Wish to develop the specialist knowledge, skills and understanding required to be a people professional. 

  • Are in an HR/people practice role with lots of experience but no relevant qualifications and have been away from study for a long time. 

Successful completion of the Foundation Certificate qualification will enable learners to gain CIPD Foundation membership and the designation Foundation CIPD. 

Membership Requirements

Candidates will be required to become a student member of the CIPD (cost in 23/24 was £144). The College will register students with the CIPD within a month of the course starting and CIPD will then contact you directly regarding membership. You need to remain in membership until all results are confirmed. 

CIPD membership provides a badge of professionalism that’s internationally recognised. It showcases knowledge and impact within the people profession.

Minimum entry requirements

  • Entry to this course is based on the content of the application form with particular attention on work history and the personal statement. Sometimes an interview is required.
  • Ideally already in or aspiring to a Human Resources role.
  • If English isn’t your first language, you’ll need to provide evidence that you’ve achieved ESOL Intermediate Level 2 (or equivalent).

Teaching

How the course is taught

Please note that in addition to the face-to-face classes on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening, there will be a requirement to attend an additional 4 face-to-face and/or online sessions held on weekday evenings (up to 40 sessions in total for the course). 

Assessment methods

Students will be assessed through written assignments of up to 2,500 words for each module, which needs to be academically written with appropriate levels of referencing included. All assessments go through a rigorous internal and external verification process to ensure we consistently meet the highest quality standards set by the CIPD.
