Overview
You will take part in an exciting, immersive, and innovative programme of design and specialist craft studies. This highly practical, project-based course places creativity at its core, encouraging you to design, experiment, make, draw, explore materials, and develop your own personal creative voice. A strong ethos of ethical making and sustainability runs throughout the programme, shaping your practice and preparing you for the future of responsible creative work.
During the course, you will work on live industry projects, collaborative briefs, and interdisciplinary challenges, all designed to mirror real-world creative practice and expand your confidence as a designer-maker. You will gain specialist skills in Art Glass, Ceramics, Jewellery, Textiles, and Performance Costume, guided by expert lecturers who are active practitioners and highly skilled in their respective fields.
Teaching takes place in state-of-the-art specialist workshops, where you will have access to up-to-date tools, equipment, and technologies. From laser cutting and digital design to hands-on material exploration, you will engage with contemporary processes that reflect the creative landscape of the 21st century.
By the end of the programme, you will have produced a strong portfolio showcasing your applied arts practice, demonstrating technical skill, creative experimentation, and a thoughtful, sustainable approach to making.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Two Highers at Grade C or above in Art and English AND two National 4 qualifications; OR
- NQ Art and Design; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
- You'll be asked to provide examples of your art and design work.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
