Overview
This new HNC Award was developed to address the current demand and growth of employment across audio content creation, particularly within podcasting. We have the licences and facilities to broadcast live shows and produce podcast content in both audio and video formats.
This is a fast-track HNC that will introduce you to producing and presenting your own content and shows for the campus City Podcasting and City Radio stations.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Higher English or Higher Media Studies or Higher Music Technology at Grade C or above; OR
- A relevant NC or NQ achieved that includes units from across broadcasting, media, communications/content creation and/or business; OR 
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

After the course
Careers
This course prepares you for a career in content creation specialising in audio production. You can apply for junior positions across podcasting, radio and other media news, current affairs and digital/ social content.
Continuing Study
If you’ve completed all 12 HNC credits with at least a B in your Graded Unit, you can apply for direct entry to Year 2 of the HND Next Generation Podcasting and Media course. This new qualification is the only specialised audio media Higher National Diploma currently available.
Teaching
How the course is taught
The course focuses on content creation, production, and presentation, delivered in our audio classrooms and state-of-the-art podcasting and radio studios using industry-standard equipment. Teaching on this course employs a wide variety of experiences, from tutor-led lectures to individual and group work around a project-based delivery.
Assessment methods
The course is continuously assessed, with students often evaluated as they complete various roles - so a high level of attendance is essential. You’ll work on practical project briefs designed to build the skills, knowledge, and experience needed for professional practice.
