Overview
The HNC Musical Theatre is a specialist qualification designed for individuals passionate about performing arts and seeking professional training in musical theatre. This course focuses on developing core performance skills in singing, acting, voice, and dance, and integrating these skills in live performance.
It is ideal for those who have prior experience in theatre arts - through school, youth theatre, or amateur dramatics - or who demonstrate strong potential and commitment to performance.
Successful completion of the HNC can lead to progression to the HND Musical Theatre or entry into higher education and professional opportunities in the performing arts industry.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Two Highers at Grade C or above, including English, Drama, Dance, or Music; OR
- NQ Drama or Musical Theatre.
Additional selection requirements
Entry is by audition - Prepared monologue, song, and participation in a dance workshop.
Formal academic qualifications alone are not sufficient; auditions and interviews are key to assessing potential.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
