Overview

This is a school college partnership course for school pupils in S4 - S6.

This course combines classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience to prepare you for work in the hospitality and catering industry. You will gain the confidence, knowledge, and technical skills needed to work safely and effectively in a modern professional kitchen and front-of-house environment. Through a blend of theory, demonstrations, and practical activities, you will explore the essential elements of food preparation, customer care and hospitality operations. 

You will develop essential kitchen skills, including menu planning, food preparation techniques, food hygiene and health and safety. 

This course includes specialist barista training, where you will develop knowledge of coffee and other beverages and learn to prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold drinks using professional equipment. 

Throughout the course, you will build key employability skills such as communication, teamwork, adaptability and empathy, ensuring you are well prepared for further study or entry-level roles in the hospitality sector. 

Attendance Pattern

  • Tuesday and Thursday (1.30pm – 4pm).

Minimum entry requirements

  • Applicants should want to learn more about the hospitality industry and/or be considering a career in the sector.   
  • It is essential that you have achieved three National 4’s including Maths and English.

  • Hospitality: Developing Skills for Working in the Professional Kitchen.

After the course

Careers

Combined with other qualifications, this course puts you on a progression pathway from NQ at Level 6 to HND at Level 8 in either Hospitality Management, Travel & Tourism, or Events Management.

Additional Information

Dress code

You will be provided with PPE (chef’s whites) in practical classes.  Students cannot wear fake nails or jewellery in class.
