Overview
This course introduces you to the world of digital arts and animation, combining traditional art, sketchbook and portfolio development with hands-on experience in mixed media and digital techniques. You’ll explore creative drawing, thematic studies, design, character development and animation while building a distinctive portfolio that showcases your skills and ideas, perfect preparation for progressing to higher art and design courses or starting your journey in the creative industries.

Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- ​Two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above including English and Art and Design or Graphic Communication; OR 
- Level 5 National Certificate in Art and Design or related subject; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience. ​

ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

Teaching
How the course is taught
This course typically employs a combination of lectures, hands-on workshops, case studies, and practical projects. Students mainly work individually to create and present their final projects.
The course is delivered mainly through practical projects in studios and state-of-the-art labs, using industry standard software and techniques. 
Assessment methods
The course is taught through a series of practical projects which are continually assessed throughout the year. There are no end of year exams.
Additional Information
Materials
If you qualify for a bursary, we’ll provide most of the materials you’ll need - including sketchbooks, art supplies, and cloud storage. You can also use your own laptop or tablet if that’s what you’re comfortable with.
