Overview

This is a schools college partnership course for school students in S4-S6.

Film and Television production in Scotland is booming with production spend figures rising to their highest ever levels - now is the perfect time to consider a career in this thriving industry.

This course will introduce you to the world of production design for film and television.

Working collaboratively on a given brief, you’ll learn how to interpret and produce scale plans before building a scale model of the set. 

Having had the opportunity to research methods and designs, you will use a range of materials and construction methods to create props. This course will be enhanced with visits from industry professionals and opportunities to visit television studios and production facilities.

Attendance Pattern

  • Tuesday and Thursday (1.30pm – 4pm).

Minimum entry requirements

  • This course would suit artistic, creative and collaborative students with National 5 qualifications, including English and Art & Design.
  • This course requires a high level of commitment from students with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in design, film or television.

  • Theatre Stage Model Set Construction.
  • Theatrical Prop Making.

After the course

Careers

Completion of this course could be your first step towards a career in television production and design. With further study, you could work in a wide variety of roles including Film and TV Model or Prop Making, Set Dressing or Set Design.

Continuing Study

By the end of this course, you will have developed an understanding of the design and construction process and could progress into courses across the design department including Model Making for TV & Film, Product Design or Furniture Design.

Alternatively, you could progress onto courses within the Creative Industries faculty, including Television, Radio and Media.

Teaching

How the course is taught

This is a practical course with many of your classes taking place in a practical setting. There are some theory-based units, which are delivered in an interactive classroom setting.

Assessment methods

There are a range of assessment methods which include multiple-choice questions, practical observation checklists, short report writing and self-study projects.
