Creative Collaboration Brings Rudolph’s Festive Story to Life

City of Glasgow College is proud to highlight a recent collaboration between our podcasting and media students, the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET), and our own award-winning chef, educator and broadcaster Gary Maclean. Together, they created an engaging audio story to accompany RHET’s new festive tale, “Carrots for Rudolph’s Party.”

The project is part of RHET’s ‘Story of Vegetables’ initiative, which supports early and first-level learners across Scotland. Designed to bring festive excitement into classrooms in the lead-up to Christmas, the audio helps teachers explore food, farming, seasonality and healthy eating in an accessible and enjoyable way. The story follows Rudolph and his friends as they prepare for a special celebration, emphasising the importance of local, seasonal produce — especially carrots — to keep them energised for the big night.

Media students Gregor Farquharson and Nathaniel Hazlie played a key role in the creation of the audio, applying their technical skills in recording, editing and sound design. Their creativity and professionalism ensured that the final piece is polished, engaging and ready to be shared with schools across the country.

Gary brought warmth and authenticity to the narration. His passion for food education aligned seamlessly with RHET’s mission to help young people understand where their food comes from.

This collaboration demonstrates the meaningful opportunities available to City of Glasgow College students and showcases the impact that can be achieved when media, education and the culinary arts come together.
