Super College delivers maritime training in Saudi Arabia

City of Glasgow College has started teaching at the National Maritime Academy in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, in partnership with BAE Systems SDT.

Following several months of development, working closely with the management team at the Academy, the College is delivering high quality training in support of the Academy’s cadet and ratings programme which covers both Deck and Engineering.

In recognition, Turki Al Shehri, Managing Director, National Maritime Academy, said: “We are immensely proud to host our partner lecturers and expert trainers at our Jubail Campus. Our international collaboration will rapidly enhance knowledge transfer and skills development in the hugely important sectors of maritime, energy and green technologies to both Scotland and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is an important milestone for the Academy as we continue to meet the aims of Saudi Vison 2030 and beyond.”

Dr Abdulatif Al Shaikh, Chief Executive Officer of BAE Systems Saudi Development Training recognised this significant milestone, saying: “This is an important evolution of our collaboration with the NMA, City of Glasgow College and other consortia partners in the building of sustainable commercial sector capabilities that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia needs to meet the Saudi Vison 2030. We are immensely proud of this important achievement and congratulate both the NMA and the City of Glasgow College for their commitment to make this happen.”

Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive at City of Glasgow College, said: "Our College has over 50 years’ experience of delivering maritime and marine engineering education and training. We are delighted to be working with the National Maritime Academy, and BAE Systems (SDT), providing the skills and expertise to help deliver world class training to a new generation of seafarers in Saudi Arabia.”

The National Maritime Academy has the capability to develop and deliver training programmes in ship building, marine and port operations, in their well-appointed classrooms, workshops and simulators.
