This course is an ideal first qualification for a career within healthcare, children and young people’s services and social care.
You will consider how life experiences and social influences affect people and consider the impact this has on care practice. You will explore sociological concepts to explain social influences and how these influence people’s life chances. You will examine the psychological theories that enable care workers to understand the behaviour of their service users.
You will examine the meaning of child protection and the various categories of abuse and neglect which require child protection intervention. You will become familiar with the legal framework, policies, procedures and agencies which are involved in child protection.
You will consider the mental health continuum and gain knowledge of how mental health problems affect individuals and others, and investigate the services available to people with mental health problems.
