Sexual Orientation

At City of Glasgow College, we are dedicated to fostering a truly inclusive and safe campus culture for all. We proudly champion the LGBTQ+ community and are committed to sexual orientation equality and inclusion. Our goal is to ensure every student and staff member feels a sense of belonging, is treated with respect, and has the freedom to be their authentic self. We believe that celebrating diversity is key to creating a supportive and vibrant learning environment.

We value all our students, staff and visitors equally, regardless of sexual orientation, and want to create an environment in which everyone, whatever their sexuality, feels equally welcome and valued.

We're also proud to be a Stonewall Scotland Diversity Champion. This gives us access to best practice in policy and procedure development, networking opportunities with other organisations, and the opportunity to benchmark ourselves against competitors. It also highlights our commitment to equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) staff and students, and potential staff and students.

LGBTQ+ History Month

Every February, the college joins the rest of the UK in marking LGBTQ+ History Month.

In spite of advances in LGBTQ+ rights in the last few years, we still have a long way to go before we achieve equality. Worldwide, there are still eight countries where homosexuality is punishable with the death penalty and 72 other countries and territories worldwide continue to criminalise same-sex relationships.

In the UK, transgender people are more likely to experience harassment and abuse, and studies of the education system suggest that bullying is widespread amongst transgender students.
