Overview

This vocational housing course is a key part of the Chartered Institute of Housing’s educational programme. It's aimed at level 4 housing professionals working in the Housing Sector, in either the public or private sectors. The course is also beneficial to employees aspiring to work at supervisory levels.

The course is essential for:

• Giving you an extensive range of knowledge and skills that are practical in nature.
• Enabling you to reflect critically on housing policy and practice.

The course combines theory and practice so that you can apply the things you learn to benefit organisational practice. This serves to promote organisational commitments to best value, with housing services being subject to continuous improvements.

The current course programme comprises six modules. Importantly, it also prepares employees for further study, supporting progression to undergraduate-level courses. This provides a clear pathway for those aspiring to move into management roles.

CIH Membership 

Candidates who are not currently CIH members will be required to become a student member of the CIH (£82). The College will register students with CIH within a month of the course starting and CIH will then contact you directly regarding payment of your membership. You need to remain in membership until all results are confirmed.  

Please note that this fee is set by the CIH and subject to change. 

New Flexible Workforce Development Fund 

Individuals with an annual income below £33,000 may be eligible to access funding to cover the cost of this qualification. 

To be eligible, you will also have to be employed and meet one of the following criteria: 

• Be a parent or carer of a child under 18 living at home.
• Aged under 24.
• Care experienced/disabled and under 30 years old.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

The level 4 course is suitable for housing professionals who:

• Hold qualifications in housing and/or social policy at SCQF level 6; OR
• Hold a QCF level 2 qualifications in housing with relevant housing experience; OR
• Have housing experience and commitment to learning; OR
• Are graduates who are seeking to obtain a relevant housing qualification.

After the course

Careers

The CIH Level 4 Certificate in Housing aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills in housing practice required to deliver effective housing services at a management level. 

Continuing Study

Students who complete this course can progress to the CIH Level 5 Diploma in Housing.
