Overview
This course is designed for individuals with some jewellery-making experience looking to refine their skills and techniques to enhance career opportunities, self-employment, or further study. It provides an excellent opportunity for those looking to upskill or re-enter the workforce in a creative industry.
The first few weeks focus on essential technical aspects, including health and safety practices.
From weeks 2-8, the following techniques will be demonstrated:
- Tapered ring shank construction, soldering, polishing, and finishing.
- Split twist shank for solitaire or double stone rings.
- Stone setting for a round stone with a 6-prong rex setting.
- Stone setting for a pear-shaped stone (pendant).
- Enamelling.
- Keum-boo.
- Etching.
The final weeks are reserved for individual one-to-one tutorials to support the development of your unique designs and skills.
Successful completion of this course, along with a positive reference from your lecturer, can support your progression to our HND Jewellery programme or other higher-level qualifications. This course offers a valuable pathway for those looking to further their expertise and access professional jewellery-making opportunities.

- You will need some knowledge of basic jewellery making.

Materials
All classes take place in a well-equipped jewellery workshop, with a selection of your hand tools, including a pliers set, needle file set cut “0”, dividers, calipers, a jeweler's eyeglass x 3.5 magnification, a dust mask, and a jeweler's apron, which will enhance your experience.
The College provides a small amount of non-precious materials and consumables. The College does not provide precious stones or metals for personal projects, which should be purchased as required by individual students.
