Overview
This course offers you an ideal first step into the Interior Design Industry, providing you with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required to begin your career journey.
You'll learn the knowledge and skills necessary to work on projects - from initial conceptual ideas to a fully functional interior design scheme you could present to a commercial client (please see further information in the 'what you study' section below).
Your programme will be delivered by our highly professional teaching staff, who have significant experience in Interior Design and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students. A blended approach to learning & teaching may continue and will include at least one full-day in the studio environment, online classes and independent study.

This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 6.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- National 5 Art and Design and National 5 English at Grade C or above; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
Additional selection requirements
Portfolio Requirements:
- You’ll be asked to provide examples of your art and design work. You must upload a digital portfolio as well as your SQA certificates.
- You should evidence your drawing skills, mixed media and application.
- 3D skills are an added advantage.
- Digital skills welcome.
- Any interest in the subject area, interiors and architecture will be advantageous.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
What you study
You'll study:
- Freehand sketching and rendering in both traditional and digital methods.
- The latest industry standard AutoCAD software.
- Production of fully rendered visuals.
- Production of sketch and finished scale 3D models.
- Presentation techniques to sell your designs to clients.
- The foundation of professional practices, including time management, organisational skills and problem-solving.
After the course
