Callum Connell Kelly

Callum Connell Kelly

Primarily a video artist. With a strong connection to film media, my art is derived from influences I have seen on the big screen. Similarly, music plays a key role in my artistic process, in several cases I have used my own musical abilities as a feature in the video and sound work that I have produced as well as drawing inspiration from movements within music such as punk, metal and hardcore. My work is commonly monochromatic or with very little colour at all, which reflects my personal relationship with colour due to my protanomaly colour blindness.

Exhibition Statement

Untitled, 2026, Sound and Video.

Untitled is a deeply personal piece. It is an introspective look at the artist’s life and particularly their surroundings. The idea comes from his own realisation of the space around him, and how he removes himself from it with the aid of various distractions. The deep bass tones create an ominous sound, paired with the eerie footage, the piece has a foreboding atmosphere. By combining footage of his own spaces, audio samples that are played on his own instruments, and sounds from his commutes, he has created a piece that is not only familiar to many but personal to him.
