Landscape Abstraction is a project where I aim to create vibrantly colourful abstract colour theory-inspired depictions of landscape imagery, a sunset, a landscape and a sunset seascape. I depict these natural scenes with a painting technique I have developed over the past year and a half, a dash mark style of depicting colours through coloured dash marks painted on top of a base colour, using colour to depict tones, shades and layers of colour that combine into an abstracted landscape image. While the compositions stay similar to the source photograph, allowing the viewer to see the landscape within the image.Â
Exhibition StatementÂ
My underlying motivation as an artist is my desire to draw and paint what I see, be it landscapes, still life and more, either in detailed charcoal, linocut, or abstract vibrantly coloured drawings and paintings. I like painting most of all, as the process has always calmed me and allowed me to make art. My new dash mark technique allows me to make vibrant abstract paintings, giving me a style of making contemporary art focused on what I see, inspiring me to continue my own passion for art making today. This is what I aspire to do in my future practice.Â
