Giovanna Caddell
I am a visual artist who brings the imagery of dreams to life. Throughout my adolescence, I have continually documented each vivid dream, which, through time, allowed my nightly visuals to evolve, becoming increasingly lucid. Working under the alias, Moondustg1rl, allows me as an artist to fully immerse myself within the whimsical essence of my practice, basking in complete artistic and spiritual freedom. As a highly nostalgia-driven creative and dreamer, the imagery of this vibrant work draws inspiration from vintage animation and the wonders of the intriguing art of the 1980s, which was introduced during my formative years.
Exhibition Statement
This project is a visualisation of the spiritual and nostalgic atmosphere of dreams, capturing the surreal quality and symbolic nature of the astral realm. Emphasised throughout my body of work, the mystical symbolism of mythical creatures and enchanting portals to the dream realm, evokes feelings of freedom, nostalgia and childlike wonder. Within each piece I aimed to encapsulate the euphoria of dreaming as well as the strange atmosphere and landscape often associated with the dream realm. I believe through the captivating aura of ‘The Pegasus’ and collated fantasy imagery, I have embraced the strange and unusual atmosphere of such fantasies through mystical compositions, a glowing colour palette and visions of imagination.
