Kasey Pexton

My practice explores the relationship between image, material, and form through mixed media collage and sculptural processes. I am drawn to layering, construction, and the transformation of everyday materials, creating works that feel tactile, expressive, and visually immersive. Colour plays a central role within my practice, though I often challenge myself through restricted palettes to create tension, balance, and depth. Influenced by fashion, human emotion, contemporary culture, and material aesthetics, my work also responds to current social themes surrounding identity, consumption, self-image, and the ways visual culture shapes personal and collective perception. My practice exists between fine art, object-making, and installation.

Exhibition Statement

This installation explores the tension, glamour, performance, and transformation that exist behind the spectacle of fashion. Influenced by backstage fittings, runway movement, casting poses, makeup touch-ups, and the physical construction of garments, the work captures moments of pressure, distortion, beauty, and release. Through fragmented canvases, repeated line, expressive colour, sculptural texture, and textile intervention create a visual language that reflects both chaos and precision. By merging painting with physical materials, the work blurs boundaries between image, object, fashion, identity, performance, and craftsmanship. At the same time, viewers experience layered narratives of making, movement, emotion, vulnerability, discipline, and self-expression within contemporary culture.
