Ellie Gibson
Glasgow-based multidisciplinary design student with a background in interior architecture and design. Before joining the BA (Hons) Design Practice programme at City of Glasgow College in 2024, I primarily worked with digital tools such as AutoCAD and SketchUp. I have since expanded my skillset by exploring analogue techniques and developing a deeper understanding of their creative potential.Â
My current approach combines analogue and digital processes, often beginning with hands-on methods such as printmaking, mark-making, and collage, before refining and editing outcomes digitally. Working in analogue enables me to discover unique patterns, textures, and forms not as easily achieved through digital means, supporting my ambition to progress into a career in interior design with a diverse and adaptable skillset.Â
End of Year Show Project Description Â
The project explores the relationship between social media and perception. A self-created questionnaire revealed that many users aged 18-30 feel anxious or overwhelmed by social media and fear how they are perceived online. In response, the project proposes a theoretical exhibition framework designed to mimic the feelings evoked by social media use. It asks users to consider why they engage in online environments that feel uncomfortable. Â
In an increasingly online world, encouraging people to remove themselves from social media entirely is not a practical solution. The exhibition is supported by a toolkit offering easy steps to create a more positive online experience, alongside reflective cards that help users track their emotions and develop healthier, more mindful social media habits over time. Â
