Ellie Glendinning
My name is Ellie Glendinning, and I am a photographer interested in capturing the relationship between humans and the natural environment. My work often focuses on atmosphere, texture and detail, using dark tones and close-ups, especially in my project âRemnantsâ (shown below). Other works I've completed have similar meanings and style, so there is a connection throughout most of my projects, which can be viewed on my website. All my recent projects explore change, memory and the relationship between people and their surroundings. I enjoy photographing overlooked subjects and exploring how emotion and meaning can be interpreted through lighting and colour.
Project Description
My project âRemnantsâ explores the impact that forestry work has on natural environments. It focuses on the traces and remains left behind after human intervention. Documenting cut wood, broken branches and forest debris to capture the forest during this transition. I used close-ups, motion blur, and low lighting to create a sense of movement and disruption. Although forestry work is helpful for the environment, they do a lot of work improving the land, such as making it more accessible for hikers.
My other projects, âLost in Childhoodâ and âAnunciation,â were completed in the past few years. These are projects I resonate more with, and they have helped me find what my interests are. Nature is something that we always come back to and something we always remember, especially from when we were younger, in our childhood.
