In my practice, I shoot mainly portraits. I am drawn to creating images that have a story behind them/behind the person in the image. I work with digital photography but have also experimented with film and camera-less techniques, such as cyanotypes. Throughout this course, my photography style has grown and developed, and I have found a style I love and would like to continue after graduation. I have also taken an interest in lifestyle photography, such as weddings, family shoots and couples shoots, as I enjoy forming a connection with who I'm photographing.
Project Description
This project is a series of images of women who work in male-dominated fields. This project aimed to highlight their presence, resilience, and individuality within spaces where they are often underrepresented. I have always enjoyed photographing people and hearing their stories. Each image places the subject in their work environment to visually communicate both their profession and personal identity. This project also challenges stereotypes and encourages viewers to reconsider assumptions about gender roles. I presented each woman confidently to show the theme of empowerment, whilst also ensuring that each person was comfortable in front of the camera. This links to the style of environmental portraiture, where the surroundings in the image are as important as the subject in telling the story and meaning. Overall, the project successfully communicates a sense of empowerment and visibility.
