Half a century on and plenty to look back on with pride

As teenagers, they were among the first students at Glasgow’s new nautical college – now City of Glasgow College - and met Lord Mountbatten at the official opening in 1969.  After successful careers in engineering, Colin Hill and Alex Marjoribanks returned to celebrate the half-century of the college, now transformed into a multimillion-pound state of the art facility.  Both have very fond memories of their student days and believe the college set them up for their careers.  Read more about the first students at Glasgow's new nautical college...

Clyde pioneers

As staff and students celebrate 50 years of Glasgow College of Nautical Studies (now City of Glasgow College) we look back at the first women who passed through its classrooms – and take stock of the place of women in British maritime education today.  Linda Forbes, Scotland's very first female deck officer, began her career at Glasgow College of Nautical Studies in 1974 when she was 16.  Read more about the Clyde pioneers...
