City of Glasgow College selected for Queen Elizabeth Prizes USA Exchange

City of Glasgow College has been selected to take part in the Queen Elizabeth Prizes for Education: USA Exchange, a prestigious international programme that brings together Prize-winning UK universities and colleges with leading institutions in the United States.

Only eight UK institutions were chosen to participate, with City of Glasgow College the only Scottish college included. The Exchange will take place in Washington DC in October 2026 and will provide opportunities to develop new transatlantic partnerships and deepen collaboration with organisations working in related fields.

The College was invited to participate following its Queen Elizabeth Prize (formerly the Queen’s Anniversary Prize), awarded in 2023 for its life-saving research into oxygen depletion in enclosed and confined spaces on board ships. That work has had a direct impact on maritime safety and training and is now helping to inform international practice.

Through the Exchange, City of Glasgow College will engage with US partners in the maritime and education sectors, supporting the sharing of expertise, joint learning and future collaboration. These links will help create new opportunities for students and staff in one of Scotland’s most globally connected industries.

The Queen Elizabeth Prizes for Education are part of the UK’s national honours system and recognise excellence, innovation and public benefit in higher and further education. Participation in the USA Exchange reflects the standing City of Glasgow College has achieved through its applied research, industry engagement and global outlook.
