City Students Supporting BBC’s The Inner Circle

For over two years, our BA Television students have gained invaluable experience working with leading production company Tern TV on the development and commissioning of their hit gameshow The Inner Circle. Hosted by broadcaster Amanda Holden and filmed at BBC Studioworks Kelvin Hall facility in Glasgow, the show aired on BBC One’s primetime Saturday evening slot and is available to view on BBC iPlayer.

This collaboration began in our own City Campus TV studios, where students observed the creative process from initial concept sketches to full-scale production. They engaged directly with Tern TV professionals, gaining insight into casting, game design, production workflows, and the commissioning process. These real-world experiences have not only enhanced technical skills but have already led to employment opportunities for students.

One such success story comes from student Louis Dalziel, who said:

“It was an excellent networking opportunity for me. I connected with a Director of Photography who helped me secure my first TV job as a runner. I now work with him regularly as a camera assistant on various shows and have gained many opportunities since. It was a valuable foot-in-the-door experience that kick-started my TV career early, even before graduation.”

Fellow student Kerry Foreman gained valuable professional insight and contacts and says:

“It was a great experience being able to witness the making of The Inner Circle. It allowed me to make important industry connections whilst gaining valuable insight into the production process. Seeing the behind-the-scenes process of the show gave me a better understanding of how studio productions are made. This has allowed me to bring those professional industry practices into my own work.”

Tern TV have also praised the partnership. David Marshall, Head of Entertainment at Tern TV, highlighted the mutual benefits of this ongoing collaboration, saying:

“Through engaging with Tern TV, City students have developed more sophisticated skills in self-promotion ably supported by their tutors. Through working with Tern TV, staff at City have also been able to keep their industry knowledge up to date and have shown a real commitment to supporting the TV industry in Glasgow. We look forward to continuing to work with City of Glasgow College and helping their students contribute to the TV industry in Scotland.”

Our students’ involvement clearly demonstrates how Team City connects learning with real-world opportunities, ensuring our graduates are ready to thrive in a fast-moving and competitive industry.
