COLLEGE APPRENTICES SCOOP TOP AWARDS AT SCOTTISH DECORATORS FEDERATION SHOW

City of Glasgow College is delighted to announce that three of its Painting and Decorating apprentices have claimed top honours at the annual Scottish Decorators Federation (SDF) Show, sweeping all major apprentice award categories at one of Scotland's most prestigious events in the decorating trade.

The awards, which recognise outstanding achievement and excellence across all years of apprenticeship, saw City of Glasgow College apprentices claim first place in every category, a remarkable result that underlines the quality of training and industry partnership at the heart of the College's Painting and Decorating programme.

The first-year prize was awarded to Ruben Daley, employed by Mitie, while Michelle Kelly of Doran Decorators took the second-year prize. The Advanced Craft Award for third year apprentices went to Moises Vasquez, employed by Dumbrek Decorators.

Michael McEwan, Painting and Decorating Lecturer at City of Glasgow College and National Secretary of the Scottish Association of Painting Craft Teachers, attended the SDF Show and was on hand to celebrate with the award winners.

"I was absolutely delighted to attend the SDF Show and watch our apprentices pick up the top awards in Scotland. Ruben, Michelle and Moises have worked incredibly hard throughout their apprenticeships and this recognition is thoroughly deserved. They have done City of Glasgow College, their employers and the wider trade incredibly proud."

The College also wishes to recognise the invaluable contribution of Shaunie Diamond of the Construction Industry Training Board, whose ongoing work in recruiting and connecting apprentices to employers plays a vital role in the success of the programme. Her dedication behind the scenes is instrumental in ensuring that young people in Scotland are given the best possible start in the painting and decorating trade.

The Scottish Decorators Federation Show provides an important platform for celebrating excellence within the decorating industry and for showcasing the very best of Scotland's next generation of skilled tradespeople. City of Glasgow College's clean sweep of the apprentice awards is a testament to the strength of its industry partnerships, the commitment of its employer partners, and above all, the talent and professionalism of its apprentices.
